Today's multi-fuel models can use either corn or wood pellets. Burning corn is a much more direct conversion of sun light to energy.
Burning corn for heat is much more efficient than turning corn to ethanol.
Pellet stoves are clean - little or no ash. Usually they don't smoke - highly efficient combustion.
Renewable energy source.
You don't need a special chimney.
Today's models are engineered to be much more energy efficient than in the past.
More and more places are selling corn and pellets making fuel easy to find.
Reliable, consistent heat.
Low maintenance.
Much more efficient use of tree resources than a regular wood burning stove.
Recycles the carbon in the air instead of pulling carbon from the ground in the form of oil to pollute our atmosphere.
Price of oil is skyrocketing, price of corn and pellets is a great alternative.
Domestic Non-foreign source of energy.
If you've never had a pellet stove, you should consider buying one because, you'll see a return on your investment quicker than ever now with the high oil prices.
There's just something about sitting near a warm heat source. It helps the psyche - maybe it is a way to connect to our ancestors who sat around camp fires and told stories.
There is a concept that needs to be understood more fully and that is that it takes more energy to heat your house than to power your house. Heating is a huge percentage of your power bill. Turning off lights with timers and such helps, but it doesn't help as much as getting a programmed thermostat and turning down the heat during the night or daytime hours (when you're at work). Affecting the heating side of your utility expense will have more of a greater effect on your power bill.
Likewise, adding an additional heat source to your home (such as a pellet stove, wood stove or multi-fuel stove) will allow you to use cheaper heat and stay warm for less money. Making a house insulated better will also help keep the energy use more efficient.
Instead of logs, pellet stoves
burn a renewable fuel made of ground, dried wood and other biomass wastes compressed into pellets.
They are some of the cleanest-burning heating appliances available today and deliver
high overall efficiency.
Because they pollute so little, pellet stoves do not require EPA certification;
some manufacturers, however, voluntarily seek this certification. Unlike wood stoves and fireplaces,
most pellet stoves need electricity to operate, and can be easily vented through a wall, unlike log-burning stoves.
